Nuevo centro comunitario abre en Western Avenue

A new 15,000 square foot community center opened its doors on Western Avenue this week, marking a milestone for the Koreatown neighborhood.

The facility, which was funded through a combination of city grants and community donations totaling $4.2 million, offers free programs including ESL classes, youth mentorship, senior wellness activities, and a community kitchen.

"This has been a dream for our neighborhood for over a decade," said Maria Torres, who helped organize the fundraising campaign. "We finally have a place where everyone — Korean, Latino, Filipino, everyone — can come together."

The center will operate seven days a week and expects to serve over 500 residents monthly.
